New Apple Commercials

Three new Apple commercials aired during television coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games in London's opening ceremonies on Friday night, each of which starred the same Apple Genius character in what could be the kickoff to a new ad campaign.

All told there are three new ads, dubbed Mayday, Labor Day, and Basically. Check them out below and let us know what you think.

Meet Michael Pangilinan

The X Factor Philippines finalist Michael Pangilinan, who was sent home from the competition in a elimination on Sunday night, got a few words of encouragement from one of his mentor that no doubt instantly dried his tears, Michael captured the hearts of the gays who watched the show because of his voice and charm.

If he is familiar to you, then it was because you saw Michael Pangilinan in German Moreno's Walang Tulugan and had already performed in several bar gigs with Eat Bulaga comedians Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo and Allan K.

Lee Min Ho: Newest Bench endorser

Korean Superstar Lee Min Ho is the newest endorser of local clothing brand Bench.

The company’s Twitter account had been dropping clues leading followers to assume that Lee Min Ho would be the next endorser, and it was announced officially today via tweet.

Bench/ announced days ago that they have a new K-pop endorser but they didn’t reveal the identity. Instead, they had been tweeting clues as to who it might be. As of yesterday, it was already clear to most of us, that it is indeed Lee Min Ho. Luckily, the odds are in our favor and we are right! Now let’s hope that Bench will also bring Lee Min Ho here in Manila for a Meet and greet!

Lee Min Ho is best known by his Pinoy fans for his role in hit Korean series "Boys Over Flowers" as well as in "City Hunter," which were both aired on ABS-CBN.

Gaga to Play La Chameleon in 'Machete Kills'

Lady Gaga’s completing her triple threat credentials by acting in Rodriguez’s film

Mother Monster is certainly keeping her schedule filled. Besides launching a new perfume and having sleepovers with Lindsay Lohan, Gaga’s playing La Chameleon in Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming film, Machete Kills. The movie is a follow up to Rodriguez’s 2010 exploitation film Machete, which started out as a trailer in the 2007 Tarantino/Rodriguez collaboration,Grindhouse. Not much is known about Gaga’s role in Machete Kills, but it might have something to do with the star’s ability to change her own image. REPORT: The Philippines’ Ticking AIDS Time Bomb

A new report coming out of the Philippines indicates HIV rates are on the rise in the Southeast Asian country. While the fewer than 10,000 confirmed cases (almost all among gay men) is a relatively small number in a country of almost 100 million, that rate has tripled in the past few years: There are now ten new infections each day. The deeply Catholic island is also one of only seven nations in the world that has seen a rise of more than 25% in HIV infections since 2001. (See the entire list here.)

“This is a worrying explosion of HIV cases marked by a shift in the way the virus is transmitted,” said Philip Castro, an HIV/AIDS program officer at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). “What’s more alarming is that more than 60% of those engaging in [homosexual] sex had reported having unsafe sex in their last contact.”

The church’s ban on condoms is a contributing factor, as are the absence of public-awareness campaigns and cultural taboos against homosexuality, AIDS and even sex.

“I know a lot of people living with HIV that are not allowed to go to school, to attend church or gain access to certain health services,” said AIDS activist Humphrey Gorriceta, who has seen two friends commit suicide after being diagnosed. “HIV is like the modern leprosy, except it is hidden.”

But by withholding life-saving educational resources that have proven so successful in other countries, the government—and the church—could face an exponentially worse problem in a nation where the average person makes about $350 per month.

The societal cost of a full-blown epidemic, meanwhile, could be in the millions.

First runners-up were Niccolo Aguilar of Marikina City and Jensine Morzo of Subic, Zambales, while Ian Almazan of Malolos City, Bulacan and Andrea del Rio of Antipolo City received the second runner-up honors.

Special awardees were Ian and Louise Morales (Best in Sleep Wear); Aron Gueco and Jensine Morzo (Best in Sports Wear); Ian and Nadine Sarte (Best Physique); Eric Gatdula and Thonie Sabile (People’s Choice); and Brent Beltran and Lady Ann Erlano (Personality Award).

Thousands of Closeted Athletes and Olympic Staffers Cause Global Grindr Crash

London, already Grindr’s most active city with 350,000 users, brought the hookup app to a grinding halt this weekend as thousands of athletes and support staff arrived for the Olympics and promptly checked who was nearby.

According to The People newspaper, ‘technical experts’ said the Grindr outage was caused by athletes and others trying to logon to the service all at the same time. Grindr works by displaying the 100 guys closest to you based on GPS data. The proximity of athletes in the Olympic village means that they are very close to one another.

One user told the newspaper: “It happened almost as soon as the teams got here. Either loads of athletes were logging on to meet fellow Olympians or were looking to bag a local.

“The Grindr system obviously couldn’t cope. It took 24 hours for the app to get back up and running, much to the relief of all concerned.”

It’s worth noting that there are only 14 openly gay Olympic athletes in the world competing at this year’s games. Grindr’s analytics suggest that there are thousands upon thousands of closeted athletes seeking not just gold, but also men.

In June the reading figures were over 1 million so I wanted to say a massive thank you to every single one of you who takes time to read this blog.

When I started out I was unsure, uncertain and unclear but now I love writing and updating my blog. Recently I have not had so much time but this month I intend to blog at least twice a week. Looking at my figures over time is incredibly satisfying but I know I cannot get smug and that I need to find consistent content which challenges me and is interesting.
